Right on for an awesome photo.

Yuck is right, I also hate flies, but, how did you manage to make even a fly look wonderfull.
Even though I dislike and probably kill these little creatures everytime I get the chance, I simply adore this photograph. This one is a dignified fly! :)

Amazing. The detail is exceptional. The fly seems particularly blue in color, which compliments the yellow flower nicely. Well done!

I just love insects. This is great.

Thanks all for the wonderful comments. There were about 50 pics of this little guy that looked awful before finally getting this one. It's a cropped picture as you can't really get quite this close with a point-and-shoot, so I was lucky to keep the detail in all it's glorious yuckiness! :)

Damn, nice shot. 50 photos or not this one rocks!!!

Posted by: Justin Makler | Aug 15, 2004 10:33:19 PM

wow, I didn't know the s400 could take a shot like that.

Posted by: Travis | Aug 15, 2004 10:40:51 PM

Actually...Photoshop deserves a little credit for the shot as the fly was much smaller out of the camera - the original shot showed much more of the rose. It was cropped in tight and then the levels and curves adjusted with a pinch of sharpness to bring out the gross fly body, which was abnormally large, so that was helpful. :)

Wow, this is such an excellent shot :)

Nice details!

Actually I think if the flies had an advertising guru, they'd hire you and run a campaign with this photo -- it's beautiful.

little hairy friend, he's a bad boy, mostly.....a bad boy........floating on a sea of soft yellow butter waves, making purple shiny reflections and connections, our terrible human right to squash you away between our thumbs.....terrifying way up in that sky, i look up and i wonder if that's you passing by.

nice work on this one! Insects are difficult to make beautiful ;-) and you managed with an annoying fly - loverly!

Its just a pesky fly but the way you shot it, Charlie, makes it look like a work of art! Fantastic background.

Great macro, nice complimentary colours and sharpness on the fly.

Great shot and level of details with the Canon S400. I love the contrasting complimentary colours and the narrow depth of field.
